Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, February 13, 2012.

The trough of low pressure that brought unsettled weather to the West on Sunday will advance into the Plains on Monday with more mixed precipitation. The trough will support a low and associated warm front moving eastward into the Southern Plains. As the system progresses, rain showers with periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will spread from parts of central/eastern Texas into western Louisiana, mixed precipitation will develop in parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas, and snow will blanket parts of the Central Plains, Mid-Mississippi Valley, and parts of the western Ohio Valley. Areas from eastern Texas through Arkansas should expect the heaviest precipitation totals. Heightened winter weather conditions will allow Winter Weather Advisories and a few Winter Storm Warnings to remain in effect through the day. Elsewhere east of the Continental Divide, lake-effect snow showers will continue along parts of the Lower Great Lakes Snowbelt.

In the West, a Pacific cold front pushing across the Pacific Northwest will drop southward across northern California, bringing coastal and valley rain and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevadas.

Areas of light to occasionally moderate rain will continue across North Texas through 7 am. The rain will occasionally mix with light sleet and light snow mainly north of Interstate 20. No additional accumulations of sleet or snow are expected. Temperatures will remain above freezing in most locations through the 7 am. However...a few locations northwest of a Gainesville...Mineral Wells to Comanche line will remain at 32 degrees through 7 am and a few slick spots will be possible on bridges and overpasses. Temperatures will continue to slowly warm through the morning and all winter precipitation will end before midday. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon as an upper level disturbances moves east across the region.

* Accumulations... little to no snow or sleet accumulations are
expected through early Monday morning.

* Main impact... if light accumulations of snow occur... the snow
will primarily be confined to grassy surfaces and elevated
surfaces such as bridges and overpasses... which may become slick
and hazardous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Some light accumulations of snow and ice are possible...
especially on elevated surfaces. Bridges and overpasses will be
the first locations where icy spots may develop. Please travel
with caution.

            Spotter reports 1" of snow on the grass with a trace
            accumulation on roadways. Some ice was reported on County
            roads 131 and 191.
