... Freezing temperatures possible early Saturday morning...
Very cold and damp weather will develop late tonight... and prevail
through the morning hours of Saturday.
Late today... moisture in the lower and middle layers of the
atmosphere will begin to pass over deep south Texas. Meanwhile... strong
surface high pressure will begin to force cold air into our
region. The interaction between this cold air and the moisture
will produce isolated to scattered light rainfall tonight... with
rainfall becoming likely for Friday.
Raw... cold conditions are expected Friday... with overcast skies... steady
to falling temperatures in the 40s... widespread rain or drizzle
with areas of fog... and northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph. The
combination of the strong winds and cold temperatures will easily
produce wind chill values in the 30s.
Friday night... the rainfall will end and skies will clear as the
weather pattern shifts. Temperatures at or slightly below freezing
may occur for several hours across northern portions of deep south
Texas... especially in Kenedy... Brooks... Jim Hogg... and Zapata
counties. Temperatures will then quickly warm above freezing
shortly after sunrise Saturday morning.
Residents are advised to take precautions during the anticipated
unseasonable weather tonight through early Saturday. To keep warm... be
sure to dress in layers... and wear a hat or other head covering.
Keep pets inside... and protect livestock and other outdoor animals
by providing adequate shelter... extra feed... and supplemental
heat. Be sure not to place space heaters near anything flammable
in your home... such as drapes... furniture... or bedding... and
remember to never use charcoal... gas grills... or your stove in
your home to keep warm.
Residents are advised to monitor this developing weather situation
through local radio and television stations... NOAA Weather Radio...
or the National Weather Service Brownsville web site at
www.Weather.Gov/riograndevalley.
