Heat Advisory
Statement as of 4:55 AM CDT on July 11, 2009
... Heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday...
A heat advisory remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Sunday.
Upper level high pressure will remain anchored over North Texas this
weekend. As a result... high temperatures will range from 99 to 108 degrees
Friday through Sunday. With the humidity... afternoon heat index values
will exceed 105 degrees. Peak heat index values will be near 110 degrees
in some locations. Temperatures will not cool off much at night... with
overnight lows in the upper 70s and lower 80s
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances. This is especially true during hot weather
when the inside of vehicles can reach lethal temperatures in a matter
of minutes... despite cracking windows or previously having used air-
conditioning.
Persons involved in vigorous outdoor activities are urged to take
frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Wear loose fitting and
light-colored clothing. Be sure to check on persons with health
problems and the elderly... as they are the most susceptible to
heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
