possibility of a rain... sleet or snow mix over The Hill Country
tonight into Wednesday morning...
... A light winter precipitation event is possible over parts
of The Hill Country to adjacent parts of central Texas Thursday
night into Friday...
A winter storm system will interact with abundant moisture and
cold air over south central Texas today through early Wednesday.
Cold rains are likely through this evening for most areas.
Rainfall accumulations are expected to be highest over the coastal
plains... or areas southeast of a Pearsall to San Marcos to
Lexington line. Southeast of this line... rainfall totals of 1 to 2
inches are possible. The potential for flash flooding is low... but
expect some ponding in areas where drainage is poor. The rains
across The Hill Country and south central Texas today will make
for wet roads and slippery driving conditions.
Cooling temperatures tonight are expected to support a mix of
rain... light snow and possible sleet over the southern Edwards
Plateau and Hill Country. Areas generally west of a Leakey to
Mountain Home line could see all light snow or flurries during the
early morning hours Wednesday. A light dusting of snow is possible
across exposed surfaces... however... any accumulations would be very
short-lived due to warm surface conditions. For the rest of south
central Texas along and east to south of a Leakey to Mountain Home
line... mostly cold rain is expected tonight. As always... some
brief periods of sleet are possible with the cold rain... however
accumulation is not expected at this time. Further north and
west over West Texas... snow accumulations are expected to occur...
and those traveling into these areas should be prepared for
hazardous travel.
This precipitation event should end from the west Wednesday
morning through midday Wednesday... as the low pressure system
aloft moves to eastern Texas.
More cold air is expected to spill across south central Texas
Thursday and Thursday night. A fast moving disturbance is expected
to bring a chance of precipitation to the area Thursday night.
Increasing chances of precipitation are expected on Friday...
as the next low moves across the area. Light snow or some sleet
could be mixed with the cold rain Thursday night through Friday across
parts of The Hill Country to adjacent parts of central Texas.
Further south across south central Texas cold rain is expected
late Thursday night and Friday. The cold rain on Friday will limit
daytime highs to the upper 30s to lower 40s across The Hill Country
to around 40 to low and mid 40s across south central Texas.
With clearing skies Friday night... freezing overnight lows are
expected... with lows in the 20s across The Hill Country to
the mid 20s to near 30 across adjacent parts of central and
south central Texas.
