... Heat advisory in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...
The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a heat advisory... which is in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening.
Very hot temperatures this afternoon and higher dewpoints behind the sea-breeze will produce heat indices between 110 and 115 degrees across portions of the coastal Bend and Victoria Crossroads. The heat index values are likely to occur just behind the afternoon sea-breeze between 2 PM and 5 PM.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Children... the elderly and people with chronic ailments are usually the first to suffer from the heat. Heat exhaustion... cramps or in extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions. Friends... relatives or neighbors should check on people who may be at risk. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
If you must be outside... reduce your activities... drink plenty of water... take frequent breaks and wear light colored clothing.

Residents with outdoor activities planned are urged to drink plenty of water... wear light weight and light colored clothing... and take frequent breaks from the heat. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Fire Weather Warning
Statement as of 3:26 PM CDT on July 05, 2009
... Red flag warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening...
A red flag warning remains in effect until 7 PM CDT this evening.
South winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts between 20 and 30 mph will continue inland this afternoon. The winds will turn southeast behind the sea breeze boundary late this afternoon... but remain gusty. Dry and hot conditions will result in low relative humidity values... dropping to between 15 and 30 percent across inland counties... and between 30 and 40 percent inland across the coastal counties.
The critical fire danger threat will continue into the early evening as a result of the combination of these weather conditions and critically dry fuels across the region.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Please advise the appropriate officials and fire crews in the field of this red flag warning. In addition... residents are urged to exercise extreme care during all outside activities that could inadvertently cause wildfires. Avoid use of welding or grinding equipment near weeds and grass. Avoid parking vehicles in tall... dry grass and weeds that could be ignited by hot catalytic converters. Do not toss cigarette Butts on the ground. Burn bans are in effect for most of the counties in south Texas.
