Strong northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with frequent gusts to 45 mph can be expected through the late night hours as a powerful winter storm continues to move east of the area. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 20 to 30 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles. Residents may wish to take action to secure trash cans... lawn furniture... and other lightweight outdoor objects that may be blown around in the strong winds. |

Statement as of 8:19 PM CST on December 24, 2009 ... Icy travel conditions are expected overnight... Widespread rain transitioned into snow across much of North Texas today and has left residual moisture on area roadways. With temperatures below freezing... many bridges and overpasses have already iced over and conditions are expected to worsen as temperatures continue to drop. With nighttime lows in the teens to middle 20s... secondary roads will also be icy. Sunny skies are expected tomorrow... with temperatures rising above the freezing mark between 10 am and noon. Residents are urged to stay off the roadways tonight. If you must travel... please exercise extreme caution. Slow down... especially when crossing bridges and overpasses. If you lose control due to icy conditions... do not slam your brakes or accelerate suddenly and always turn into the skid. |
