... Near record high temperatures expected over the Holiday weekend...
Hot afternoons are in store for southeast Texas over the Fourth
of July weekend as strong upper level high pressure builds across
the area. Afternoon high temperatures each day will be near or
above record levels at many locations... and heat index values
will peak in a 103 to 108 range. Heat index values exceeded 108
across the Houston Metro area Friday. A heat advisory might be
needed Saturday into Sunday.
Those venturing outside over the Holiday weekend should prepare
themselves for the intense heat. Use light weight and light
colored clothing. Try to avoid prolonged outdoor activity during
the hottest time of the day. Drink plenty of water to avoid
dehydration. Make sure indoor locations are properly air
conditioned. Make sure both the Young and the elderly are
safe... and that the pets have shade and plenty of water.
Heat relief is expected to come next week. The strong upper level
high pressure system will weaken and drift westward. Both
decreasing afternoon high temperatures and increasing rain
chances can be expected.
