Coastal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 10:50 PM CST on November 09, 2009
... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect until 4 am CST Tuesday...
The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
coastal Flood Advisory... which is in effect until 4 am CST Tuesday.
Swells from Tropical Storm Ida are now arriving along the Upper Texas
coastline. Unfortunately this is occurring at high Tide. Water levels
along the Gulf facing shores are running between 3 and 3 1/2 feet.
However... high wave run up from the surf is pushing over some low lying
roads and also depositing some debris on them. This includes Highway 87
on the Bolivar Peninsula between Gilchrist and High Island... the Blue Water
Highway and County Road 287 in Brazoria County.
As mentioned before... we are at high tide now. Water levels should begin
slowly receding after 1 am and toward sunrise.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will
combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
