... Heat advisory now in effect until 7 PM CDT Saturday...
The heat advisory has been extended until 7 PM CDT Saturday.
Late afternoon heat indices of 102 to 110 will be common through 7 PM. Overnight lows in the mid 70s to around 80 will blanket the area offering only a slight respite from the heat. Plenty of sunshine Saturday leading to highs again near the 100 mark will combine with the humidity to bring widespread heat indices of 105 to 109 over the area on Saturday. Even more moisture could move into the region on Sunday and this may warrant a further extension of the advisory.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
If you plan to be outside... avoid prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity. Your body can lose up to a gallon of water an hour through perspiration. Drink plenty of fluids well in advance of going outdoors and while outside to avoid dehydration. Alcoholic and caffeinated beverages can increase the rate of water loss in your body... increasing the risk of heat exhaustion or stroke. Wear lightweight... light- colored... loose- fitting clothing. Wear a hat to shield yourself from the sun... and use a sunscreen to reduce possible sunburn.
