Public Information Statement
Statement as of 3:19 PM CST on November 10, 2009
... Perryton weather radio transmitter damaged... The NOAA Weather Radio transmitter in Perryton /kjy88/ which operates on a frequency of 162.475 megahertz is currently working at less than full power. The antenna has sustained damage and is operating on one of four elements. The resulting loss of signal strength has not affected the coverage area significantly... but has reduced the penetrating ability of the signal... meaning that reception inside structures may be adversely impacted. A new antenna is on order but is not expected to be delivered until as late as early December. The Perryton NOAA Weather Radio will continue to operate on the weaker signal until the part arrives.
