	Heat Advisory
Statement as of 5:10 AM CDT on July 09, 2009 ... Heat advisory in effect until 7 PM CDT Friday... The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a heat advisory... which is in effect until 7 PM CDT Friday. The heat advisory is in effect for areas generally south of a Tyler Texas... to Shreveport and Minden Louisiana... to Winnfield and Jena line. A strong ridge of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere will build east into the Mississippi Valley today and Friday. This will result in afternoon temperatures near 100 degrees both today and Friday. When combined with the humidity..heat indices will range from 105 to 109 degrees each day... with low temperatures tonight only expected to fall in the mid 70s. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of non alcoholic... non carbonated fluids... and stay in an air-conditioned room as much as possible. If using fans... open windows to allow for fresh air circulation. Stay out of the sun as much as you can... and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not Forget the pets... as they need plenty of water and shade as well. 15
