Overnight temperatures will slowly fall through the 80s... then briefly dip into the mid and upper 70s around sunrise. Another hot day is expected Friday with highs of 98 to 105. Heat index values will be around 105 during the afternoon hours and may briefly reach as high 110.

A heat advisory means very high temperatures and humidity will create conditions that may cause heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Drink plenty non-alcoholic fluids... stay in air conditioned buildings... stay out of the sun... and check on relatives and neighbors.

... Mid June to July 9th 2009 continues with hot afternoons...
The period from mid June through July 9... 2009 continues to show hot afternoon highs averaging 5 to 10 degrees warmer than usual. So far for the first 9 days of July this year the average daytime highs have been around 100 to 103. Daily record highs were observed today at Austin Bergstrom with 104... and the high of 105 at Austin Mabry tied the record for July 9th of 105 in 1925. The high of 104 at San Antonio was 1 degree below the record for July 9th of 105 in 1939... and the high of 106 at del Rio was 2 degrees below the record high of 108 on July 9... 1939. Todays highs were around 10 to 12 degrees above usual for early July.
A brief stretch of hot afternoons showed up in early may. So far this year since early may... Austin Mabry and del Rio have had 23 100 degree days... San Antonio 19 100 degree days and Austin Bergstrom 17 100 degree days. The hottest days so far in 2009 were as follows... del Rio 107 may 6th... Austin Mabry 106 on June 25... June 29... and July 8... Austin Bergstrom 107 on June 25... and San Antonio 104 on June 29... July 5... July 8... and July 9. The high of 107 at San Antonio Stinson field on July 5th was the hottest day so far in 2009 at San Antonio Stinson field.
As hot afternoons continue this week... this will add to the continued dryness across south central Texas.
