Nowcast as of 6:27 am CST on December 24, 2009
Now
Snow will continue through 8 am across the South Plains and rolling plains. The heaviest snowfall bands were located from near Levelland...across the city of Lubbock...to near Jayton where localized rates of up to one inch per hour could be observed. The bands were moving north at 20 mph while the entire area of snow was moving east at 10 mph. This will allow the heavier snowfall to spread into portions of the rolling plains around 8 am as well. The back edge of the snowfall was located along a Hereford to Muleshoe line at 6 am...and will push to a Quitaque...Lubbock...to Brownfield line shortly after 8 am. Wind speeds continue to increase as well with sustained speeds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts approaching 50 mph across the rolling plains. This is resulting in white-out conditions on area highways and roadways. Calls to local law enforcement agencies indicate that hazardous driving conditions exist and travel is strongly discouraged.
