.An area of low pressure near the Bay of Campeche is
expected to move into the northwestern Gulf of Mexico
by this weekend. This feature combined with high
pressure over the eastern United States will lead to
strong easterly winds over most of the northern Gulf
and increased tide levels across the Upper Texas coast.
Tides will average around two feet above astronomical
values during the period from Saturday night into Sunday
night.
With high tides between 3 and 4 feet coastal flooding will be
possible... particularly along the Bolivar Peninsula and the
west end of Galveston Island. Water may at times overspread
Hwy 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula leading to hazardous travel
conditions. Tides should begin to diminish on Monday as winds
become more northerly.
