Flood Warning, Flash Flood Warning

the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has issued a

* Flood Warning for
the San Marcos river below Luling.
* From Friday afternoon to Sunday morning... or until the warning is cancelled.
* At 2:45 am Friday the stage was 16.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Friday afternoon and continue to rise
to near 22.5 feet around midnight Saturday. The river will fall below flood
stage by Saturday evening.
* Impact... at 24.0 feet... moderate flooding in Palmetto State Park five miles
below Luling inundates many park facilities and roads.
* Flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 22.1 feet on Dec 28
1994.

southeastern Comal County in south central Texas...

* until 445 am CDT

* at 1251 am CDT... Doppler radar indicated a line of thunderstorms
producing heavy rain over the I-35 corridor. 1 to two inches of
rain are falling with the initial line... which is generally
occurring in a 30 minute to 1 hour period. Flash flooding is
expected to begin shortly from near Schertz to San Marcos to much
of the Austin Metro area.

* until 545 am CDT

* at 143 am CDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rains from a line of
thunderstorms moving into the coastal prairies of south central
Texas. Up to one and one-half inches of rain is expected to fall
over much of the advisory area through 3 am CDT. These rains will
be falling over saturated soils and swollen streams to produce
rapid flooding of normally flood prone areas.

... Flash Flood Watch in effect from 7 PM CDT this evening through
Friday morning...

The National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio has expanded
the

* Flash Flood Watch to include a portion of south central
Texas... including the following areas... Bastrop... Bexar...
blanco... Burnet... Caldwell... Comal... Dimmit... Fayette... frio...
   Guadalupe... Hays... Kendall... Lee... Maverick... Medina...
Travis... Williamson and Zavala.

* From 7 PM CDT this evening through Friday morning

* rainfall is expected to approach the Rio Grande from the west
this evening and progress eastward across The Hill Country and
potentially through the I-35 corridor during the overnight
hours. Between 1-2 inches of rain is forecast with isolated
amounts of 3 inches possible.

* Due to the very moist conditions of the grounds and soils in
the area... rapid flash flooding of low water crossings and
some roadways will be possible where heavy rain develops.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means flash flooding is possible in or near
the watch area. If you are in the watch area... plan now for what
you will do if flash flooding develops. Stay informed and be
ready to act if you see flooding or if a Flash Flood Warning is
issued.
