... Red flag warning in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM
CDT this evening for strong winds and low relative humidity for
the western two thirds of the panhandles...

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a red flag
warning... which is in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to 10 PM
CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.

* Affected area: in Oklahoma... Cimarron... Texas... Beaver. In
Texas... Dallam... Sherman... Hansford... Ochiltree... Hartley...
Moore... Hutchinson... Roberts... Oldham... Potter... Carson...
gray... Deaf Smith... Randall... Armstrong... Donley.

* Wind: south and southwest winds between 20 and 25 mph with
higher gusts.

* Humidity: minimum relative humidity values between 6 and 15
percent.

* Timing: critical fire weather conditions are expected to
develop early Saturday afternoon and continue through
Saturday evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Relative humidities of 15 percent or less... sustained 20 foot
winds of 20 mph or greater... and an elevated fire danger rating
will create red flag conditions.

... NWS damage survey completed for the may 16th severe
thunderstorms that affected extreme East Texas and northwest
Louisiana...

A supercell thunderstorm produced four tornado tracks as it moved
across extreme East Texas and northwest Louisiana. This damage
occurred on the afternoon of may 16th. The storm damage survey
results are placed in chronological order in which they happened.

1. 4 miles west of Waskom, TX

tracked east uprooting and snapping trees along its path...

Survey_summary: the tornado touched down just south of i20 on
the southern end of Waskom just west of Magnolia Road. The tornado
caused minor damage to metal buildings and equipment at Red Diamond
Oilfield services. The tornado then tracked south southeast uprooting
and snapping trees along its path... and causing damage to a few
residential homes. The tornado then lifted about 0.5 miles south of
i20 and 0.25 miles east of Magnolia Rd.

Survey_summary: the tornado touched down just north of i20 in
Greenwood near the old Kelly truck stop. The tornado crossed i20 near
the Hwy 80 intersection on the east side of Greenwood. The tornado
uprooted and snapped trees as it moved southeast toward the old
general motors plant. Several residential and Mobile home communities
had structural damage from fallen trees in the path. One injury
occurred at the Blue Ridge Mobile home community near Buncombe Rd and
Bert kouns. The tornado then lifted about 0.4 of a mile southeast of
the Bert kouns and Buncombe Rd intersection.

Survey_summary: the tornado briefly touched down 1 mile north
northeast of Stonewall. The tornado near a broad area of straight
line wind damage caused by a downburst in northern De Soto Parish.
The tornado had a very short north to south track of about a quarter
mile from Bozman Rd to russel Rd in northern De Soto Parish.

Ef scale: the Enhanced Fujita scale classifies
tornadoes into the following categories.

EF0... weak... ... 65 to 85 mph
EF1... weak... ... 86 to 110 mph
EF2... strong... .111 to 135 mph
EF3... strong... .136 to 165 mph
EF4... violent... 166 to 200 mph
EF5... violent... >200 mph

... NWS damage survey confirms a downburst in southern Caddo
and northern DeSoto parishes on may 16th...

A supercell thunderstorm produced a downburst that caused significant
straight line wind damage in southern Caddo and northern De Soto
parishes. NWS radar estimated that some of these winds could have
reached near 105 mph. The damage path started near Barron Road in
southern Caddo Parish and ended near lake Rd just east of I-49 in
De Soto Parish. Other sporadic wind damage was observed in south
Shreveport and other parishes in northwest Louisiana... however this
area was the most significant.
