Weather Summary
Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

Nowcast as of 8:29 PM CST on February 13, 2012
At 825 PM...a mixture of snow and sleet has spread as far east as a Portland to Murfreesboro to Shelbyville line. Temperatures are above freezing so wet Road conditions should continue to prevail. Otherwise...look for the sleet and snow to spread eastward across the mid state. As we move toward midnight...the snow and sleet will change to rain from west to east. Liquid equivalent amounts of precipitation should average between one and two tenths of an inch through midnight.

Special Weather Statement
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 3:57 PM CST on February 13, 2012

... Wintry mix still expected across the mid state tonight...

A storm system will bring a wintry mix of light snow... sleet... and
rain to the area tonight. This wintry mix will enter areas along
the Tennessee River around sunset... then spread eastward across
the rest of the area through the evening. The winter weather will
change over to rain after midnight as warmer air aloft spreads
over the region.

With temperatures forecast to remain near or above
freezing... only minor accumulations of snow or sleet are expected
mainly on grassy areas and elevated surfaces. The best chance for
any snow or sleet accumulations will be across northwestern middle
Tennessee along and north of a line from Camden to Clarksville.

Uncertainty remains on how much if any accumulations can occur.
Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and your local media for the
latest forecasts and updates on this winter weather situation.
