Rainfall amounts will range from one tenth to one quarter of an inch per hour. However...a few bands of heavier rain could produce amounts up to one half inch per hour. The Tri- Cities area and eastern parts of southwest Virginia can expect the rainfall to continue through mid morning.

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 1 PM EST this afternoon... The Flash Flood Watch continues for * portions of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia... including the following areas... in east Tennessee... Johnson... northwest Carter... southeast Carter... southeast Greene and Unicoi. In southwest Virginia... Washington. * Until 1 PM EST this afternoon * additional rainfall amounts near one and one half inches are possible this morning across the watch area. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should keep informed... and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Flash Flood Warning is issued. If you come to a closed or flooded Road... turn around! Don't drown!

... Record daily maximum rainfall set at the Tri-Cities regional Airport... A record rainfall of 1.37 inches was set in the Tri-Cities yesterday. This breaks the old record of 0.96 set in 1979.
