Statement as of 3:58 PM EST on November 11, 2009 The Flood Warning continues for the French Broad River near Newport TN * until Friday morning. * At 2:45 PM today the stage was 11.8 feet. * Minor flooding is occurring. The forecast is for minor flooding. * Forecast... the river will continue to rise and crest near 13.5 feet around 1 am Thursday. The river will fall below flood stage early Friday morning. 358 PM EST Wed Nov 11 2009 ... Flood Warning extended until Thursday afternoon... The Flood Warning continues for the Pigeon River at Newport TN * until Thursday afternoon. * At 3:00 PM today the stage was 10.7 feet. * Moderate flooding is occurring. The forecast is for moderate flooding. * Forecast... the river will continue to rise and crest near 11.5 feet around 7 PM today. The river will fall below flood stage tomorrow morning. * At 8.0 feet... minor flooding occurs downstream from gage on Highway 25/70. 333 am EST Wed Nov 11 2009 The Flood Warning continues for the Newport TN * from 1 PM Wednesday until late tonight. * At 3:00 am Wednesday the stage was 6.8 feet. * Minor flooding is forecast. * Forecast... the river will rise and crest near flood stage around 1 PM Wednesday then begin to fall. * At 8.0 feet... minor flooding occurs downstream from the gage on Highway 25/70 and along Jimtown Road. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Most deaths in floods occur in cars! If you come to a closed or flooded Road, turn around! Don't drown! Statement as of 3:43 PM EST on November 11, 2009 ... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST Thursday... A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 PM EST Thursday... for southwestern Virginia... the northern mountains of east Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains. Northeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph... can be expected overnight into Thursday afternoon. The highest speeds and gusts should occur in the higher elevations... above 2500 feet. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory means that winds of 26 to 39 mph and/or gusts of 40 to 57 mph are expected or occurring. Winds this strong can make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles... so use caution when driving.
