Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, February 10, 2012.

Expect active weather to move into the East on Friday, as a trough of low pressure moves from the Southern Plains and into the Eastern Valleys. Flow around this system will pull moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms over the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi River Valley throughout the day. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe with strong winds and heavy downpours. The northern side of this system will push a cold front into the Midwest, which will move through the Great Lakes and into the Ohio River Valley. Expect light and scattered snow showers to develop along the front as it passes through northern Michigan and into the eastern Ohio Valley and the Central Appalachians. Warmer temperatures ahead of this system will allow for rain showers to develop in parts of the Mid-Atlantic states and the Tennessee Valley.

Out West, a weak trough of low pressure moves onshore from the Pacific Ocean, bringing some moisture onshore with it. This will produce more rain and high elevation snow showers over the Pacific Northwest. Some of this moisture will stretch southward into northern California, allowing for light rain and high elevation snow showers to spread into the northern Sierras.

Winter Weather Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 10:34 AM EST on February 10, 2012

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 7 PM this evening to
7 PM EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Winter
Weather Advisory for snow... which is in effect from 7 PM this
evening to 7 PM EST Saturday.

* Event... low pressure and much colder temperatures should bring a
significant snowfall to the northern Cumberland Plateau. A
general snowfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected.

* Timing... rain will spread northeast into the Tennessee Valley
and southern Appalachians... mainly this evening... then change
to snow overnight into Saturday. Accumulating snow showers
should linger at least into early Saturday evening...
especially in areas where upslope brisk northwest winds occur.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow are
expected or occurring... but accumulations are expected to be
light. Driving and walking may be difficult on untreated roadways
and sidewalks. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited
visibilities. If you must travel... slow down and allow extra time
to reach your destination.

Wind Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 12:03 PM CST on February 10, 2012

... Wind Advisory in effect from 7 am EST /6 am CST/ to 7 PM EST
/6 PM CST/ Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Wind
Advisory... which is in effect from 7 am EST /6 am CST/ to 7 PM
EST /6 PM CST/ Saturday.

* Timing... a cold front will move east through the southern
Appalachians early Saturday. Northwest winds will increase
rapidly behind the front. Sustained wind speeds of 20 to 30 mph
can be expected.

* Impacts... these winds may down trees or tree limbs... and power
lines. Loose outdoor objects should be secured. Motorists should
be extra cautious to cross winds when driving in the higher
elevations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 26 to 39 mph and/or gusts of
40 to 57 mph are expected or occurring. Winds this strong can
make driving difficult... especially for high profile vehicles...
so use caution when driving.
