... Unseasonably cold conditions tonight with near record low
temperatures...

High pressure will build across the eastern United States... bringing
unseasonably cold air into the southern appalachian region. Mostly
clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall fifteen
to twenty degrees below normal tonight. In fact... low temperatures
will approach or exceed record values for the 25th. With temperatures
falling into the 30s in the valleys of southwest Virginia and
northeast Tennessee... patchy frost may develop in these areas
towards sunrise on Saturday morning. Sheltered valleys will be the
most susceptible to frost formation late tonight.

... Cool today with near record cold tonight...

Surface high pressure will build into the area from the northwest
this weekend. This system will bring much colder temperatures into
the region. Temperatures today will be below normal. These
temperatures coupled with breezy northwest winds will result in
apparent temperatures mainly in the 60s.

The cooling continues tonight with readings falling to near record lows.
Overnight lows will be around 15 degrees below normal. Readings
this cold with approach or exceed record low values.

Late night patchy frost is also possible across southwest
Virginia... northeast Tennessee and portions of the region down to
the great Smoky Mountain National Park. Sheltered valleys will be
most susceptible to frost tonight.
