Statement as of 9:11 PM EDT on April 16, 2014

...Freeze warning remains in effect from 2 am to 9 am EDT Thursday...

* event...a widespread hard freeze is expected...with low temperatures dropping into the upper 20s to lower 30s over much of the region.

* Timing...freezing temperatures are expected tonight and Thursday morning between 2 and 9 am et.

* Impacts...area fruit trees and strawberries are blooming... making them susceptible to freeze damage. Additional early Spring Time vegetable crops...such as onions and spinach are also vulnerable to these subfreezing conditions. Area growers will need to take precautions to prevent damage to their crops.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are expected or occurring. These conditions may kill crops and other sensitive vegetation that are left unprotected.

A record low temperature of 25 degrees was set at Tri-Cities today. This breaks the old record of 27 set in 2008.
