A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 am CST /5 am MST/ Saturday.
* Periods of snow will develop through this afternoon and evening and intensify overnight. The snow will continue off and on into Friday night before ending Saturday afternoon.
* Snowfall amounts will range from 8 to 12 inches across central and north central South Dakota... 12 to 16 inches in the James Valley... and 15 to 20 inches across northeast South Dakota and west central Minnesota.
* Winds will increase to 25 to 40 mph by Thursday night... with higher gusts possible. These strong northerly winds will continue through Saturday morning.
* Intense snowfall rates of an inch or two an hour will be possible tonight and Thursday night through Friday. By late Thursday... the snow will combine with strong north winds to create widespread blowing snow with near whiteout conditions.
