... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until noon CST Saturday...
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until noon CST Saturday.
* Timing... snow will continue through the night as northwest winds average 25 to 40 mph. Widespread snow and blowing snow will continue with blizzard conditions. The blizzard conditions will continue Friday into Saturday even though snowfall intensity will begin to slowly decrease Friday night. But the winds will still be strong.
* Accumulations... storm totals will range from a little over 12 inches near the eastern border of South Dakota... to around 7 inches in south central South Dakota around Chamberlain and Gregory County. Extreme northeast Nebraska will likely see snow amounts of 12 to 15 inches. Some drifts in rural areas may well exceed 6 feet. This could pose a problem for livestock owners if snow drifts breach the fence line.
* Wind and visibility... northwest winds will continue averaging 25 to 40 mph... with these winds continuing into Saturday. This will create widespread visibilities of near zero through Saturday morning.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded... stay with your vehicle.
