	Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 2:58 AM MST on December 22, 2009 ... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 6 PM CST /5 PM MST/ Wednesday to 6 PM CST /5 PM MST/ Friday... The National Weather Service in Aberdeen has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow... which is in effect from 6 PM CST /5 PM MST/ Wednesday to 6 PM CST /5 PM MST/ Friday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect. * Widespread snow will develop Wednesday afternoon... with snowfall intensity increasing during the day on Thursday. Snowfall will continue to accumulate through Friday. * Snowfall amounts will range from 6 to 8 inches across central and north central South Dakota... 8 to 10 inches in the James Valley... and greater than 10 inches across northeast South Dakota and west central Minnesota. * Winds will increase to 20 to 35 mph by Thursday... with higher gusts possible. These strong northerly winds will continue into Friday. * Snow combined with strong northerly winds will create blowing snow and very low visibilities. Travel will be difficult at times. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Kramlich/mohr
