Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 3:26 PM MDT on May 24, 2015

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of South Dakota and northeast Wyoming... including the
following areas... in South Dakota... central Black Hills...
Custer County plains... Fall River... Hermosa foot hills... northern
Black Hills... northern foot hills... Pennington County plains...
Rapid City... Shannon... southern Black Hills... southern foot
hills... southern Meade County plains and Sturgis/Piedmont foot
hills. In northeast Wyoming... southern Campbell and Wyoming
Black Hills.

* Through Monday afternoon

* storm total rainfall of one to two inches are expected across
much of the Black Hills. Some areas along the eastern slopes of
the Black Hills... could receive as much as 3 inches of rain by
Monday afternoon.

* Soils are saturated and creeks and streams in many locations are
still running high from recent storms... especially along the
eastern slopes of the Black Hills and over southwestern South
Dakota. The additional rain may cause more flooding in those
areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means that flooding is possible along rivers and
creeks in the watch area... but is not imminent. If you are in the
watch area... take time to move livestock... equipment... and other
property from low lying areas before flooding occurs. Monitor
NOAA Weather Radio and local media for updated forecasts and be
ready to quickly move to higher ground if rising water levels are
observed or a warning is issued.
