... Wind Chill Advisory in effect from 3 am to 10 am CST
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Wind
Chill Advisory... which is in effect from 3 am to 10 am CST
* Wind and visibility... after a lull in wind speeds during the day
today... winds will again increase to 15 to 25 mph tonight. This
will create bitterly cold wind chills... along with patchy blowing
and drifting snow.
* Wind chill values... wind chill values of 20 below to 25 below zero
are expected late tonight through mid morning Wednesday.
A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when a strong wind will combine with
cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for exposed
skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 20 degrees below zero or
colder for a period of several hours. Those planning to venture
outdoors should dress warmly... making sure that all exposed skin is

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am CST early this
* timing... strong winds will move across the area during the
early morning hours. Winds will begin to subside by daybreak.
* Weather conditions... northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will move
across the region early this morning... with brief gusts to around
40 mph possible. The strong winds will combine with light snow
showers and a loose snowpack to produce areas of blowing snow. The
blowing snow will occasionally reduce visibility to a mile or
two... with open areas briefly seeing visibility drop below a mile
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside.

A winter weather advisory is issued when significant accumulations of snow, sleet, or freezing rain may affect the advisory area.
- High Wind Advisory
A high wind advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 mph or greater are expected to occur for at least 1 hour. This advisory can also be issued if winds of 46 mph or greater are expected for any length of time.
