The Flood Warning extended for the Congaree River at Sandy Run. * From today to Monday morning... or until the warning is cancelled. * At 11 PM Wednesday the stage was 20.3 feet. * Flood stage is 23 feet. * Minor flooding is forecast. * Forecast... the river will rise above flood stage this afternoon and crest around 23.9 feet Friday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage Sunday or Monday. * At 24.0 feet... several homes in the Sandy Run subdivision along the river become flooded. * Flood history... this crest compares to a previous crest of 23.9 feet on Mar 31 2005.

The Flood Advisory continues for the Congaree River at Columbia. * Until Friday morning. * At 5 am Thursday the stage was 14.9 feet. * Flood stage is 19 feet. * Forecast... the river at Columbia will crest near 17.5 feet Friday. * Advisory stage is 10 feet. * At 10 feet... lowland flooding near the river occurs... this includes the Cayce-West Columbia riverwalk. At 19 feet... extensive swampland and large areas of farmland and pasture land downstream from Columbia become flooded.

Winds today on area lakes will be north 20 to 25 knots with gusts near 30 knots. Winds tonight will be north 15 to 25 knots diminishing to 10 to 20 knots late.
Strong low pressure near the North Carolina coast is responsible for the winds.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A lake Wind Advisory indicates that winds will cause rough chop on area lakes. Small boats and personal watercraft will be especially prone to capsizing.
