Statement as of 1:46 PM EST on December 24, 2009 The National Weather Service in Columbia has extended the * Flood Warning for... Clarendon County in central South Carolina... * until 245 am EST Friday * at 144 PM EST moderate flooding of the swampland downstream from the Santee dam which impounds Lake Marion will continue. The dam operator has to continue releasing water due to heavy rains over the past several weeks. This trend is expected to continue for the next few days. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flood Warning means flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges... dips... or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream... even a small one... on foot. To escape rising water move up to higher ground. Report flooding to your County sheriff... or call the National Weather Service in Columbia toll free at 1 800 7 7 5 7 1 9 9. Lat...
