Typhoon Sanvu will continue losing strength as it persists on its northeastward track through the cooler waters of the North Pacific Ocean. By Sunday, this system will decrease to tropical storm strength with winds between 39 and 73 mph (33 to 64 knots). This system will remain well south of Japan and landfall is not likely.

Just to the north, a weak trough of low pressure will linger over the Sea of Japan and push some moisture onshore. This will allow for cloudy skies with a chance of showers to persist for parts of northern Japan and the Korean Peninsula. Expect Tokyo to see partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 70s(F)/ mid-20s(C).

Behind this system, an area of low pressure continues strengthening in western China. Flow around this system continues pulling abundant moisture in from the South China Sea, allowing for warm and humid conditions to persist across southern China. Expect widespread showers and thunderstorms to develop from Laos and Indochina, through southern China and into Taiwan. Hong Kong will see showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with highs in the upper 80s(F)/ near 30(C), while Shanghai will be dry with partly cloudy skies and highs near 80(F)/ 27(C). To the north, high pressure over northern China produces another dry, sunny, and warm day. Expect sunny skies in Beijing with highs near 90(F)/ 32(C).

In Australia, high pressure builds into the Great Australian bight and allows for a dry airmass to cover most of the country. Eastern Australia dries out as a trough of low pressure passes to the east. Thus, Sydney will see sunny skies with highs in the mid-60s(F)/ upper teens(C).
