High Wind Watch
Statement as of 10:46 AM EST on February 09, 2010
... High wind watch remains in effect from 9 PM EST this evening through Wednesday morning for Lake Moultrie...
A high wind watch remains in effect from 9 PM EST this evening through Wednesday morning for Lake Moultrie.
A strong cold front will push through the area this evening as low pressure pulls away from the region. Very cold air interacting with lake waters in the upper 40s could produce west winds of 25 to 35 knots from late evening through late Wednesday morning. Gusts as high as 40 kt may also occur. Waves will also build as high 3 to 4 feet... mainly over the central and eastern parts of the lake. In addition... strong wave action may produce minor damage to docks and some inundation of the Lakeshore for areas such as Bonneau Beach... Lions Beach... the short stay naval Recreation Area and Pinopolis. The high wind watch may be upgraded to a High Wind Warning or a Wind Advisory later today.
Mariners are urged to remain off the lake beginning tonight as dangerous conditions are expected.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 35 knots or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared for possible warnings from the National Weather Service in Charleston.
