The low pressure system that has brought much snow to the northern Plains and Great Lakes will continue to wind down on Sunday, though light snow will continue to accumulate in the frigid air filtering in behind the storm. As the main storm weakens, a coastal low pressure system moving up the East Coast will sap some of its energy while bringing heavy rain to New England. While most of the region gets rain from this storm, far northern Maine will see snow.

In the South, high pressure will build eastward keeping skies clear throughout the Southeast and for all but the beaches of the Gulf Coast. There a storm in the Gulf of Mexico will send a few showers ashore. The Southwest, Rockies and High Plains will also sit under the influence of this protective high pressure system, and skies will remain clear and dry. West of the Rockies, a relatively dry storm system will continue to slowly make its way ashore, eventually moving into the Northwest. High pressure in the region will slow the storm's approach in the region, pushing precipitation southward into California before Washington even begins to see cloud cover. By the end of the day, showery weather will spread throughout the coast, though the showers will generally be very widely scattered away from the Central California coast.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a low of -18 degrees at Belmont, Ariz. to a high of 73 degrees at West Kendall, Fla.
