Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, December 21, 2009.

The Pacific Northwest will see another messy day on Monday as a strong low pressure system moves through the region. The system will have obtained ample moisture from the Pacific Ocean and will pull cold air in from British Colombia. Thus, cool conditions will persist with highs remaining in the 20s and 30s with light rain over the region. Snow is anticipated over the Cascades and Northern Rockies as the mountains will aid in an additional trigger to initiate precipitation. Expect less than a half of an inch of rain at lower elevations, while the mountains will see between 2-4 inches of new snowfall. Cool conditions with light and scattered showers will also extend into northern California.

Moving east, a low pressure system that has dipped into the Upper Midwest from central Canada will bring another wintry day to the Great Lakes. This system will slowly track eastward over the Great Lakes and kick up 1-2 inches of snowfall on Monday. Elsewhere in the Central and Eastern US, high pressure will continue building over the Mississippi and Ohio River Valleys, thus, a few patchy clouds with cool conditions will persist. The North will remain in the 20s, while the Southeast will see another sunny day wit highs in the 50s. The Plains will remain under relatively inactive weather on Monday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday ranged from a low of -13 degrees at Gunnison, Colo. to a high of 73 degrees at San Fernando, Calif.
