Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, December 20, 2009.

A winter storm will linger over the East Coast and bring another messy day to New England and the Northeast. A low pressure system will continue pushing northward up the East Coast and pull cool and moist conditions into the region. A winter weather advisory has been issued over the region because 3-5 inches of new snowfall is expected over much of New England. Further north, a blizzard warning is in effect for Massachusetts as 6-10 inches of snow is anticipated with winds gusting up to 30 mph. These conditions will allow for dangerous road and travel conditions over most of the Eastern US. Please take extreme caution if travel is necessary on Sunday.

Meanwhile, just west and south of this event expect dry and cool conditions as high pressure starts to build in from the Plains. Expect a few scattered clouds over the Central and Southern US, with the South remaining in the 50s, while the Midwest will see highs near 30. A weak low pressure system tracking through the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest may allow for a few scattered flurries on Sunday.

More active weather is anticipated Out West as a low pressure system moves onshore from the Pacific Ocean. This system will have obtained abundant moisutre and will allow for widespread scattered precipitation over most of the Pacific Northwest. Expect less than a quarter of an inch of rain over most ares, while light snow with accumulation up to 3 inches is expected over the higher elevations. The rest of the West will see cool conditions with overnight lows dropping below freezing in some areas.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a low of -20 degrees at Berlin, N.H. to a high of 82 degrees at San Diego, Calif.
