Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, November 25, 2009.
As Thanksgiving Day approaches, expect a blistery and chilly day over the Midwest and Great Lakes, while the Pacific Northwest will remain wet and cool.
A strong low pressure system will continue tracking eastward and push further into the Northeast and New England. This system will continue pulling a cold front with it, and is expected to extend down the Mississippi River Valley. This system is expected to weaken in the South, and track northeastward up the Ohio River Vally bey evening. Ahead of this system, expect seasonably warm temperatures to persist with highs in the mid-50s, while behind this front will see much cooler. Highs in the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains will drop by 10 degrees in some places, with highs ranging around the mid-30s to 40. Residual moisture over the region, in addition to near freezing temperatures over the region, may allow for light snow showers in the North. Snowfall accumulation will remain less than a half of an inch. Rainfall along this front will remain light, with no more than a half of an inch expected over the Midwest and into New England.
The Central and Southern Plains will also remain chilly as cool air pours in from the North. Expect highs near 60, while frost and freeze advisories will remain in effect over Oklahoma as overnight lows will dip to near freezing again on Wednesday night.
Out West, a low pressure system in the Pacific Ocean will continue bringing cool conditions with scattered showers over the Pacific Northwest. Expect less than a half of an inch of rain, while the higher elevations of the Cascades and Northern Rockies may see a few flurries.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday ranged from a low of -2 degrees at Gunnison County, Colo. to a high of 86 degrees at West Kendall, Fla.

The Manufactured Doubt industry and the hacked email controversy
Posted: 10:07 AM EST on November 25, 2009
In 1954, the tobacco industry realized it had a serious problem. Thirteen scientific studies had been published over the preceding five years linking smoking to lung cancer. With the public growing increasingly alarmed about the health effects of smoking, the tobacco industry had to move quickly to protect profits and stem the tide of increasingly worrisome scientific n

Weatherwise, it was not a very happy Thanksgiving in Colorado in 1983. The "Great Thanksgiving Weekend Blizzard" dropped almost two feet of snow in a timeframe of 37 hours, causing Stapleton Airport to close for a day. Many interstate highways around Denver were closed and visibility at Limon, Colo. dropped to zero.
