A potent storm system will continue to bring winter weather to the Northern Plains and Great Lakes regions on Saturday. This broad low pressure system will encompass an area from the Rockies to New England and the Mid-Atlantic. A second storm will bolster precipitation along the East Coast as it develops off the Carolinas and sends abundant moisture ashore. Temperatures at the coast will remain warm enough that snow will be kept at bay on Saturday, but inland, especially throughout the Mid-West and Northern Plains, cold temperature will keep precipitation falling as mostly snow. Southeasterly winds in the Great Lakes region will allow warm air to flow north and keep most of the region from receiving much snow.

The Southwest and Southern Plains will be cool but dry Saturday as northerly winds push Canadian air southward. Overnight lows will drop below zero all the way south to the northern reaches of the Gulf Coast states.

West of the Rockies, clouds will begin to increase across the Pacific Coast as a frontal storm moves closer to shore. By nightfall Northern California should expect to see rainfall begin, with precipitation moving inland overnight. The Northwest will see clouds from this storm on Saturday, but precipitation should hold off until Sunday morning.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday ranged from a low of -24 degrees at Jordan, Mont. to a high of 83 degrees at Vero Beach, Fla.
