Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

At 422 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar was tracking
a line of moderate to heavy rain along a line extending from
Middleton to Millis to Johnston... or along a line extending from 7
miles southeast of Lawrence to Franklin to Providence... and was
moving east at 10 mph.

This line will impact the afternoon rush hour with reduced
visibilities at times and ponding of water along roadways. Motorists
are encouraged to take it slow when encountering these hazards and
be cautious of other drivers.
