... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 515 PM AST for San Juan and Guaynabo municipalities...
At 308 PM AST... river gages indicate major flooding currently occurring on the Rio Piedras has reach record flood levels.
At 3:00 PM AST... the Rio Piedras at senorial in the cupey area... registered 16.62 feet. This breaks the previous record level of 16.06 feet on August 24... 1988. Also of note... hurricane Georges of 1999 produced 15.28 feet at this same location. Several reports of major flooding have been received by the NWS.
This situation should be taken very seriously. Move away from flood waters immediately and never try to cross a flooded roadway under any circumstance.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warning area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property. Do not attempt to cross swiftly flowing waters or waters of unknown depth by foot or by automobile.

River gages on the Rio Piedras indicate major flooding is now occurring over upper portions of the river... near montehiedra. These waters will create moderate to major flooding downstream... in low lying urban areas of Rio Piedras. If you are near this river... move to higher ground immediately and never try to cross a flooded roadway..

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued an
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for the following municipalities...
in Puerto Rico Bayamon... Guaynabo... Carolina... Catano and San Juan
* until 400 PM AST
* at 106 PM AST Doppler radar estimated heavy rain in the San Juan Metro area... with a possibility of up to two inches of rain expected during the next few hours. Minor flooding of urban areas and areas of poor drainage is expected.
