Weather Underground midday recap for Monday, February 13, 2012. A storm raced out of the Rockies and into the Plains on Monday, producing a good shot of Winter weather in the Plains and Mississippi Valley. Winter Weather Advisories were posted from eastern Oklahoma through the western Tennessee Valley in anticipation of several inches of new snow. Snow fell as far north as Minnesota and Michigan, but lighter snow was reported the farther north you went. In the warmer air closer to the Gulf Coast, rain fell in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Wet weather also greeted the West Coast as a Pacific storm slammed into California. This storm lacked a tremendous amount of moisture, but it has been a very dry Winter for the state thus far, and any precipitation is very much welcomed. Up to a foot of new snow is possible from this storm in the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas when all is said and done.

The East Coast was dry as a high pressure continued to dominate, but the region experienced another chilly day. By the afternoon, temperatures were still in the 20s and 30s for many areas in New England, while temperatures in the 30s were experience as far south as Arkansas. Morning temperatures were in the 20s in northern Florida.

The Northern Plains rose into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest saw temperatures in the 30s and 40s. The Southwest rose into the 40s, 50s, and some 60s.

Isolated to scattered showers as well as cloudiness associated with an approaching cold front...now located just northwest of Puerto Rico...will continue to affect portions of Puerto Rico for the next few hours. Periods of moderate to locally heavy rainfall... reduced visibilities...and minor ponding of waters on roadways and in low lying areas can be expected with the heaviest showers.
High surf advisory in effect until 6 am AST Wednesday...

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a coastal
Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 8 PM this evening to
8 am AST Tuesday. The coastal Flood Watch is no longer in effect.
A high surf advisory remains in effect from 6 PM this evening to
6 am AST Wednesday.

* Waves and surf: northwest swells of 8 to 10 feet will generate
large breaking waves of 12 to 18 feet and numerous rip currents.

* Timing: tonight through Tuesday night.

* Impacts: numerous rip currents... minor coastal flooding and
beach erosion.

* Coastal flooding: total water rises of 2 to 4 feet above
inundation level are expected at the time of high tide tonight.
This may pose a threat to life and property with minor coastal
flooding and beach erosion expected.

* The times and heights of the high tides on Tuesday for the
following locations are:


Aguadilla: 1:22 am AST at 1.4 feet.

Arecibo: 1:34 am AST at 1.8 feet.

Mayaguez: 1:47 am AST at 1.6 feet.

Magens bay: 3:36 am AST at 0.9 feet.

San Juan harbor: 2:26 am AST at 1.4 feet.
