Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 8:16 PM EDT on July 11, 2009
... Flash Flood Watch in effect until 2 am EDT Sunday...
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a
* Flash Flood Watch for a portion of northeast Pennsylvania...
including the following counties... Lackawanna... Luzerne...
southern Wayne and Wyoming.
* Until 2 am EDT Sunday.
* Showers and thunderstorms moved through the area earlier today
dropping up to an inch of rain. A large area of showers and
thunderstorms in central Pennsylvania will move through the area
this evening. Isolated areas could get 2 to 4 inches of rain in
2 hours or less. This potential rainfall will cause flash
flooding of urban areas... and small streams and creeks.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued. Do not cross flooded
roads... especially at night. It is hard to tell how deep the water
is or if the Road is washed out.
