... Flood Watch in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday
morning...
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has expanded the
* Flood Watch to include portions of central New York and
northeast Pennsylvania... including the following counties... in
central New York... Delaware. In northeast Pennsylvania...
Lackawanna... Luzerne... northern Wayne... southern Wayne...
Susquehanna and Wyoming.
* From Saturday morning through Sunday morning
* tropical system Hanna will move up the mid Atlantic coast on
Saturday... spreading very heavy rain into eastern Pennsylvania
and eastern New York. An initial area of moderate rain is
forecast to develop early Saturday morning and affect the
region. The rain will become heavy during the day... and will
continue through the evening hours.
By the time the rain tapers off Sunday morning... 3 to 6 inches
of rain is possible along and south of a Tunkhannock to Pleasant
Mount to Stamford line. Isolated higher rainfall amounts are
possible... especially across the higher terrain of the Catskills
and Poconos.
* Heavy rain could initially result in flash flooding over
portions of northeast Pennsylvania and southeast New York. As
the rain continues through Saturday... runoff will result in
rises on area streams and creeks. Tributaries along the Delaware
River will also be vulnerable to flooding.
A Flood Watch means there is the potential for flooding on small
streams... creeks... poor drainage... urban and low-lying areas
based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts
and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living... working
or driving in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take
action should flooding develop.
