Statement as of 5:03 PM EDT on July 12, 2009 ... Tornado confirmed near White Deer furnace in Union County Pennsylvania... Location... White Deer furnace in Union County Pennsylvania date... July 11 2009 Estimated time... 450 PM EDT maximum ef-scale rating... EF0 estimated maximum wind speed... 75 mph maximum path width... 50 yards path length... 1 mile Beginning lat/Lon... not currently available ending lat/Lon... not currently available * fatalities... 0 * injuries... 0 * the information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event(s) and publication in NWS storm data. ... Summary... the National Weather Service in State College PA has confirmed a tornado near White Deer furnace in Union County Pennsylvania on July 11 2009. An efo tornado touched down at 450 PM EDT on the north side of Interstate 80... and moved souhteast for approximately 1 mile. The tornado crossed Interstate 80 before lifting near wite Deer furnace at 452 PM EDT. Damage was minimal with about 10 trees and numerous branches blown down or uprooted. Eye witnesses... including a Pennsylvania State Police officer... reported broad rotation within the storm and a funnel reaching the ground. This information can also be found on our website at weather.Gov/ctp. For reference... the Enhanced Fujita scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0... wind speeds 65 to 85 mph.
