Statement as of 5:02 AM EST on December 25, 2009 ... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until 5 PM EST this afternoon... The Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect until 5 PM EST this afternoon. A wintry mix of either snow... sleet or freezing rain will overspread central Pennsylvania today. The arrival time of the mixed precipitation will range from around 7 am over southwest parts of the region... near Somerset... to early afternoon around Williamsport. The areas most susceptible to a prolonged period of frozen precipitation will be over the higher terrain of the Allegheny Mountains... from around Somerset northeast through Philipsburg and Coudersport. Precipitation should change to plain rain across the entire region by late afternoon... as temperatures rise above the freezing mark. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... sleet... or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving. Motorists should be especially cautious on bridges and overpasses... where slippery spots develop first.
