* urban and small stream flood advisory for... northwestern McKean County... Warren County...
* until 400 PM EDT...
* at 1254 PM EDT Doppler radar indicated heavy rain was falling due to a line of slow moving... training thunderstorms that extended from Bradford... to Warren and Grand Valley. Doppler radar estimates that between 1 and 1.25 inches of rain has fallen in the last hour. Additional rainfall of up to one inch is possible in the advisory area between 1 and 230 PM. Expect minor flooding to begin shortly.
* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Bradford... Eldred... Kane... Lewis Run... Clarendon... Tidioute and Warren.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A flood advisory means that although streams and creeks may be elevated or even rise out of their banks... property damage will be minimal. Inconveniences can be expected but the flooding will not be immediately life threatening.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles away.
Be prepared to take action if the flooding threat increases... or a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
... Strong thunderstorms will affect McKean... northern Potter... northwestern Cameron... northwestern Elk and northwestern Tioga counties through 245 PM EDT...
At 139 PM EDT... strong thunderstorms were along a line from 11 miles south of Olean to 13 miles southeast of Bradford to Kane to 22 miles southwest of Kane... moving east at 45 mph.
Wind gusts to 45 mph and pea-sized hail are possible with these storms. Very heavy rain of up to one inch in just 30 minutes will fall from these storms... and will cause water to pond on roads and quickly fill roadside ditches and small streams.
Also expect frequent... dangerous cloud to ground lightning from these storms. Do not stay in the open nor seek shelter under trees when lightning threatens... move indoors when a thunderstorm approaches.
These storms will be near Oswayo around 200 PM... Genesee around 215 PM... Keating Summit around 230 PM and Denton Hill State Park around 245 PM.
