High Wind Watch
Statement as of 2:27 PM PST on November 15, 2009
... High wind watch in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday
morning the Coast Range of northwest Oregon and the Willapa Hills
of southwest Washington...
The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a high wind
watch... which is in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday
morning.
Breezy conditions will continue over the Coast Range tonight and
Monday. However... a very deep low pressure will develop offshore
late Monday... and pass offshore of the Oregon coast Monday
evening as it moves towards British Columbia. Its associated cold
front will move onshore late Monday night.
At this time... there is potential for strong damaging winds over
the Coast Range Monday night through early Tuesday morning. Wind
gusts up to 60 mph are expected at the moment... however there are
some indications that winds may gust as high as 65 to 75 mph in
parts of the Coast Range.
As a result... a high wind watch has been posted for Monday night
and early Tuesday morning.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
