High Surf Advisory
Statement as of 3:04 PM PST on November 25, 2009
... High surf advisory now in effect from 1 am Thursday to 4 PM
PST Friday...
The high surf advisory is now in effect from 1 am Thursday to
4 PM PST Friday.
Long period swells will impact the coast late tonight...
Thanksgiving day... Thursday night... and on Friday through the
afternoon. Breaking waves of 21 to 25 feet can be expected along
and near the coast.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.
These breaking waves will increase wave run up distances along
the coastline... especially at and around the time of high tide on
area beaches and jetties. Waves will break on and near area
jetties and exposed points. Waves of this magnitude move very
quickly and can easily sweep debris... such as logs and rocks... as
well as people into the cold ocean waters. Strong currents
associated with these waves are also likely... making it extremely
difficult to escape the powerful surf.
