... Heat advisory in effect until 9 PM PDT Sunday for the
Willamette Valley... Columbia River gorge... and Upper Hood
River Valley...

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a heat
advisory... which is in effect until 9 PM PDT Sunday.

* Timing: through Sunday evening.

* High temperatures: 90 to 95 degrees... except near 100 degrees
for the central Columbia River gorge and the Upper Hood River
Valley.

* Low temperatures: 60 to 65 degrees.

* Duration: Sunday should be the last hot day. Temperatures will
gradually cool each day with daytime temperatures below 90
degrees by Tuesday.

* Locations include: Eugene... Springfield... Corvallis...
Albany... ODell... Salem... McMinnville... Hillsboro...
Portland... Oregon City... Gresham... Vancouver... Battle
Ground... Washougal.

* Impacts: do not leave children and pets unattended in
automobiles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency... call 9 1 1.

fire behavior. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
