... Red flag warning in effect from 2 PM to 8 PM PDT Sunday for scattered thunderstorms with insufficient moisture across zones 624 and 284...
The National Weather Service in Medford has issued a red flag warning... which is in effect from 2 PM to 8 PM PDT Sunday for scattered thunderstorms with insufficient moisture across zones 624 and 284. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
Low pressure will move across the area Sunday with scattered thunderstorms developing. The combination of scattered lightning... dry fuels... and insufficient rainfall may lead to numerous new fire starts.
In addition to the lightning potential... southwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph by mid-Sunday afternoon. The winds will shift west and decrease through evening.
Monday and Tuesday and offshore flow with a dry and warming trend develops that could make any fire starts on Sunday more problematic.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
