Statement as of 2:26 PM PST on December 08, 2009 ... Very cold temperatures to continue across the region... Frigid temperatures will again grip southwestern Oregon and northern California tonight. Temperatures will plunge into the lower 20s at the coast to well below zero in areas east of the Cascades by early Wednesday morning. Low temperatures Wednesday night will not be nearly as frigid but will still range from the middle 20s at the coast and upper teens in the western valleys to a few degrees below zero on the east side. This string of cold temperatures has not been felt since late December of 1998. The long duration of cold temperatures will cause unprotected water pipes to burst. Drain all exterior water hoses... faucets and irrigation systems. Trailer homes and older homes are particularly vulnerable to pipes freezing. If you live in a trailer home or older home you may want to keep your faucets dripping overnight to help prevent pipes from freezing and possibly bursting. Pets are also susceptible to the extreme cold. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. If this is not possible... make sure outdoor pets have warm dry shelter... and provide sufficient food and fresh unfrozen water. 228 am PST Tue Dec 8 2009 ... The cold air mass will remain firmly in place tonight with similar low temperatures early Wednesday morning. Slightly warmer overnight lows are expected Wednesday night.
