High Wind Watch
Statement as of 4:38 AM PST on November 16, 2009
... High wind watch remains in effect from this evening through
Tuesday morning for the Willapa Hills of southwest Washington and
the Coast Range of northwest Oregon...
A high wind watch remains in effect from this evening through
Tuesday morning.
Breezy conditions will continue over the Coast Range today.
However... a very deep low pressure area will develop offshore
late this afternoon... and pass offshore this evening as it moves
toward British Columbia. Its associated cold front will move
onshore late tonight.
At this time... there is the potential for strong damaging winds
over the Coast Range tonight into early Tuesday morning. Wind
gusts up to 65 mph are expected at the moment... however there are
some indications that winds may gust as high as 75 mph in parts
of the Coast Range.
As a result... a high wind watch continues for tonight and early
Tuesday morning.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph... or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
